FIELD TRIP ESSAY TOPICS 2007 Note: for all essays, we expect you to prove you were there through your verbal descriptions and, if at all possible, through a photograph or two. We especially appreciate photos of you at the place, that show you having a great, if sobering, experience. Cosumnes Preserve: Floodplains, wildlife, and urban sprawl. Describe your experiences in hiking the Cosumnes River Preserve, especially your reactions to both seeing a variety of wildlife and to the many obvious signs that the area is heavily influenced and managed by humans. The Cosumnes River Preserve and other areas nearby (e.g., Stone Lakes) may soon be islands of wetlands surrounded by suburban development, if present trends continue. How does all this make you feel in terms of the future of wildlife in this area, as an example of what is happening throughout California? What should we (Californians) do about such areas in the future?
