IAH 203 Empire - many different territories ruled by the same ruler. Imperialism - (associated with industrialism) Conquer - subdue by force Colony - where inhabitants reside. Necessary part of an empire. Cant have an empire without a colony. Informal colony and neo colony- None are formal colonies. Revolution - overthrow the government and replacing it by another. Spanish Empire- 1) consolidation of the state. This took a long time. 2)Empire building outside the America’s Most significant territories- Mexico, South America, Peru First part of Spanish Empire is Mexico because of rich land and workers. Third part of Spanish Empire is Havana, Cuba because of military. British Empire- 1) consolidation 2) empire outside the Americas Established power basis and established formal colonies. Out distance the Spanish. Two wars at the height of the Empire, The rid of Napoleon and WW1. Also acquired informal control of many other territories. United States-
