Physics 2213 Homework #7 Spring 2009 Read: Chapter 27, intro., sections 27.1-7 Learning Goals: (Be sure you understand where and how each goal in each assignment applies to our homework, discussion, lecture, and lab activities.) * Relate and calculate magnetic forces, magnetic fields, and velocities of moving electrically charged particles—directions and magnitudes—using the Lorentz Force Law. * Determine the trajectories taken by charged particles moving under the influence of magnetic forces, given the geometry of the field and the initial particle velocities. * Relate and calculate magnetic fields and magnetic forces acting on electric currents. * Explain and show how to determine appropriate field directions and calculate physical quantities involved in applications involving magnetic fields and forces—mass spectrometer, velocity selector, cyclotron, magnetic rail gun, aurora, Earth's magnetic field.
