Caitlin McCurdy Corporal Punishment: A Religious Conflict? How does one’s outlook on corporal punishment coincide with one’s religious belief as a Christian? In the modern world today, we are continuing to be bombarded increasingly more to resolve to the scientific and psychological views of discipline as our basis of faith in corporal punishment. As Christians, it is vital to develop our own beliefs and convictions of where we stand in the matter of corporal punishment, and by firmly doing so remain devoted to the scripture and our beliefs, regardless of the conflict brought forth by the pressuring world we live in, or we will merely become another Christian who conforms to the considered norm of our culture today. Throughout the scripture, we are continually taught the proper way to approach the issue of corporal punishment for children, more specifically in Proverbs. The context we are given simply states that our responsibly with children is not just nurturing them, but correcting them as well. God
