2.ProcedureExamine each wood specimen and determine the type of wood, the number of ringsper inch, and the percent of summer wood. Measure the cross sectional dimensions.Compression Perpendicular to the grain:Place 6” wood specimen on testing machine using a base plate to raise the loadinghead high enough for the strainometer to be placed under the load head. Place thespecimen flat wise on the base plate (so the grain line are perpendicular to the load).Place a 2” wide loading plate across the middle of the specimen, with long axis of theplate normal to the loading axis of the specimen. Set a spherical bearing block on topof the loading plate.
