John Q 2 John Q, a generic name used in the United States to denote the common man, is just what the movie I’m going to talk about is called and just what it is all about. The movie John Q (2002) is about an ordinary man named John Quincy Archibald and his family, wife Denise and son Michael. The film is based around the struggle John Q faces when his son falls seriously ill and needs an emergency heart transplant that he cannot afford in order to live. During the course of the movie, Michael is playing baseball until he falls seriously ill and is taken to the hospital only to find out that he has an enlarged heart that is basically useless. Without a heart transplant, he may only live for days or weeks and the hospital basically tells John and Denise to take him home to die. Naturally, this is unacceptable to them and John goes immediately to his insurance company. Unfortunately, they recently switched to an HMO which is cheaper but only pays out $20,000 maximum for catastrophe when a heart transplant costs $250,000. John and Denise do everything they could to raise the $75,000 down payment
