Ebrahimi, 1 Marjan Ebrahimi WRT 104 Section 0038 Professor Magnuson The Challenge of Reading As a youngster, I had trouble reading. I attended Young World Day School, a private school that taught kindergarten through fifth grade. I began attending Young World when I was six. I was in first grade and most of the children already knew how to read, however, I did not. While my classmates got to read big chapter books and novels, I was stuck reading the baby books. You know, the ones with the shapes and numbers? This frustrated me, I felt less smart and left out. When I complained to my mother, she opted to hire me a tutor. First, I took a reading exam to see what exactly my problem was. Maybe I was dyslexic? After long hours of tedious testing, they found that I just couldn’t read, plain and simple. Then, we found Liza. She was my savior. I remember the first time we met. I was shy and didn’t really know what to expect. Would she be young? Old? What if she was mean? Well, my mom and I rang her doorbell, and a woman who looked about forty with short silver hair and smiling brown eyes answered the door.
