Exam 1 Exercise Cusaac Team Observed: University of South Carolina Gamecocks Specific event: USC vs. SC State Football game Write your observations: Motivation What is motivating the athlete(s)? What motivates the athletes most is the new found recognition they have received this year. After defeating a highly ranked team, the Gamecocks are noted to stop at nothing to prove their strength. (It seems their goals are achievement oriented and their motives are extrinsic). What is motivating the coach(s)? Steve Spurrier came from a team that he led to an SEC title and even a national title. His former experience as both a player and a coach gives him assurance that he can turn a football program into anything. A lot of sports broadcasters say to give Spurrier his own time and it will become his team. Having people believe in you provides a strong source of motivation. Use one or more of the Theories of Motivation to describe your observation The “Need Achievement” theory definitely applies to the Gamecocks. Because
