Study Guide for MidtermThe first part of the midterm is worth 20%,and consists of the names of two or three famous Italians: you will have to indicate what their impact on Italian culture was. It is not enough to simply indicate who they were or what important work of art or literature they created;you must indicate the influence of their work(s). For example, if one of the famous individuals is Filippo Brunelleschi, it is not enough to say that he was a sculptor and the architect who built the cupola (dome) for the cathedral in Florence. You should point out that his free-standing dome, the first ever built, would become the model for other free-standing domes around the world, from Saint Peter’s in Rome, to Saint Paul’s in London, to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The famous Italians whose cultural impact you will be asked to identify will come from this list: St. Francis of Assisi, Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio, Donatello, Ghiberti, Masaccio, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Marino, Palladio, and Goldoni.
