Desireé Winnett Children’s Literature Professor Signorotti TA Greg Ames December 7, 2006 Keeping the Dream Alive It seems as if everyday a new rags to riches story is told revealing the  hope that through money one can find happiness. In the story A Little Princess, a  young girl, Sara encounters the opposite; she loses all of her money and  possessions and is left with nothing. Although Sara discovers that you never truly  all left with nothing, you always have something or in her case having hope in  magic. And although magic, to most, seems unreal the belief in magic can  essentially be the one thing that can give someone the strength and courage to  go on. When Sara is seven she is sent to live at a boarding school in London  after having lived in India her whole life with her father. Due to her fathers  immense status Sara is treated like royalty and given anything she wishes for.  Even though she is held in higher standards than the other girls in her school she  is still very giving and compassionate. She is a favorite among the girls due to  her imaginative story telling and intense imagination which stemmed from her

belief in magic.  Her father sent her to England in hopes that she would be safe  and secure while receiving an admirable education. Unfortunately, on Saras  eleventh birthday she received the unbearable news that her father had passed  away. Her mother had also passed away when she was young and therefore  Sara was left with no one. She missed her father greatly due to the  Winnett 2 very close relationship they had together. Sara was devastated and furthermore
