Project management is a set of activities that are planned out and have a specific objective that is to be completed within certain time specifications. In addition the project will have specific starting and ending dates, resource requirements, and funding requisites (Kerzner, 2013,). The project described in this text involves the preparations for the horse racing event of the year known as the Kentucky Derby. The project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure are outlined as well as the involvement of those involved. Each of these areas are vital to recognize a successful project deployment as well as a successful conclusion. As a head cook for an Off Track Betting facility I was given the task to plan out how we would set up for the 2003 Kentucky Derby for our location. The task was given to me three months in advance and the end results and had to be ready and set up a week prior to the event. Never really planning for such a big event as this my first thought was to ask those who come to the facility day in and day out what they would like to see at such an event. I took the first three days after being handed this task to ask questions and get input and ideas from the customers that frequent our facility. After taking in all this information I sat down with our management team
