Assignment 4 2/25/2008 SAS Institute: A Different Approach to Incentives and People, management practices in the software industry 1. SAS's company philosophy regarding its workers is quite simple “treat others as you would want to be treated”. This company started by 4 graduates started out wanting big offices, and to be treated fairly and this stuck with them to this day. All employees receive there own office and a level of respect that comes with the job. No one is monitored regarding performance and given evaluations instead they believe if you like your job and are happy with it then you will perform your tasks to your full abilities. They make everyone feel as though they are part of something and not just a forgotten piece of a puzzle. This philosophy I feel helps the company retain its employees and allows them to work to full potential instead of sitting around at a desk moping around. 2. The companies philosophy regarding how to motivate workers is that if you trust and respect workers then they will achieve the goals in place. Instead of monitoring and questioning and badgering workers about there current progress and given them evaluations the company trusts
