Italy and Me By Brendan Sullivan I grew up in historic Lexington, Massachusetts. My childhood consisted of mainly sports and play. I played lacrosse, soccer, hockey, and baseball. By the time I entered high school, I had narrowed down my sports to just soccer and lacrosse. In high school, I started to take Italian. I ended up taking it for all four years of high school, and by my senior year, we started an exchange trip to Siena, Italy. We went there for two weeks in February of my senior year, and the two weeks were the best of my life. I had so much fun trying to communicate with all the Italian kids. While we were in Italy, we visited Florence, Montalcino, and Venice, and we stayed the majority of our trip in an Italian home in Siena. My hosts had an apartment in the middle of the city, so I was walking distance from everything. Every night we went out in the city and we went somewhere different every night. One night we went to a discotecca and we danced all night until 4 in the morning. Another night, we went to the Contrada Giraffa, which is a "team" in the great horse race of Siena, the Palio. While in the Contrada, I made great friends with all the people kind enough to feed us and entertain us that night. They even gave
