Assignment 3 1. Seattle was named after a chief on a Native tribe, chief Seattle. This happened in 1852 by a traveler named Arthur Denny. 2. Federal Way was named after Federal Highway 99 was complete. The city’s name was first used in 1929. 3. Issaquah was at first called squak, because of all of the squaking of the water birds near the city. It was later called Gilman and later in 1899 the Washington State Legislature changed it to Issaquah. 4. In September 6 th 1901 the city of Renton was incorporated. It was named by Henry Tobin and his wife Diana. They were the first settlers of European decent. 5. Auburn was incorporated in 1891 and was first called Slaughter. It was named after William Slaughter, who died in an Indian uprising. The name changed to Auburn in 1893.
