Yuria Hashimoto Jaclyn Moryan English 1310 March 1, 2008 The Needs of Religion for People As the war in Iraq wanes, there is a lot of pessimism in the world about the Iraq war. Many people look back at the history of wars since the very beginning, and they must think that the religious conflict is the root of all sad wars. It started with the war between Catholicism and P r o t e s t a n t i s m i n E u r o p e f r o m t h e s i x t e e n t h c e n t u r y t o t h e s e v R e f o r m a t i o n . A f t e r t h a t , T h e T h i r t y Y e a r s W a r o c c u r r e d b e t w e e n R o m a n Calvinism during the seventeenth century. And now there is the Iraq war between Iraq and the U.S., which started in 2004 by the Bush Administration and that is also known as a religious war b e t w e e n M u s l i m s a n d a n t i - M u s l i m s . T h e q u e s t i o n i s , “ D o w e r e a l l y a l l o w o u r religion as an excuse for homicide?” and “Is not it possible to make a world peace if we e li m i na t e r el i g io us d if fe r en c e? ” S om e p e op le ma y e ve n t h in k t ha t we do n ot ne e d anymore. The answer is, “We need a religion.” Before starting an argument, I must mention that I am not in any particular faith; therefore, I do not have any bias against a particular religion. But I am of the opinion of affirmation to the existence of religion. There are three things I want to explain to support my opinion. First, the causes of wars cannot be dismissed just as the religious conflict. These wars
