This is not just a magazine. This is a shining beacon of hope…” (“The Devil Wears Prada”). For me, fashion magazines ha been a shining beacon of hope, too. Since the first time I bought fashion magazines when I was 14 years old, the moment of reading them has been one of the most joyful times in my life. Every single picture and text inspires me, and I let my imagination run throu fabulous world of fashion. The movie called “The Devil Wears Prada”, one of the most popular movies in 2006, shows us the reality of fashion magazine industry that is extremely hard, busy, cold, b u t s t i l l f a b u l o u s . M y q u e s t i o n a f t e r s e e i n g t h e m o v i e w a s , “ I s t h i s q u a l i t y o fashion magazine the outcome of that hard working?” I evaluate the U.S. fashion magazine by comparing with Japanese one. I have three points and reasons to support my evaluation. First of all, the amount of advertising inserted in U.S. magazines is way too much. The most selling fashion magazine in Japan, CanCam has about 388 pages of advertising,
