BRYANT1 Julian Bryant Beckwith PSY18 09/18/2016 FAS VS. Down Syndrome These articles gave descriptive analyses of two abnormalities that have been found to occur in new childbirths. The first article I read was the one about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). This condition is found in newborns who have been exposed to heavy amounts of alcohol during the critical stages of fetal development in pregnancy. The article goes on to explain the causes, diagnoses, how it affects the child, and treatment options. The second article was detailed breakdown of Down Syndrome. In this article, they describe what the condition is, how it affects the child, methods of genetic screening for the condition, and how to cope with a child that has the condition. After reading both articles, I have found few similiarities between the two condiotns and a number of differences. First and foremost, FAS is a preventable condition directly
