If you took one of the rosters last time, please return it because I need it to see who signed in for enrollment purposes. We’ve made some movement on the waitlist; if you’re above twenty on the waitlist, make sure you have a backup class. There are two books you’ll need for this class. You’ll need Berger’s Invitation to Sociology and Fischer’s Inequality by Design . For those of you who’d like to say that there is no inequality in America, there is. As optimistic as we are, we do have inequality by design. The design is the design of that hotel, the design of the structure of society that we compete for. This book puts the focus on us and our values that built the structure that we lived our lives within. As for Bspace, please be familiar with this website. There are announcements. One is that there will be an adjunct class provided through the Student Learning Center. There will be more information provided about this class, in which students will have an opportunity to dive deeper and learn more about Sociology, especially because we do not have sections for this course. LECTURE Many people also responded to a picture I placed in our chat room, something I’d like all of you to be familiar with. You can respond to what I say and respond to each other’s responses. What is Sociology? I want to address some course content through this presentation. It summarizes some of the material on the first few pages of your syllabus. What is Sociology? It’s a new discipline for many. It’s alien, and it asks you to rethink some of your assumptions. Berger tells us some things, but it’s written for
