The VCR still does not work in this room. What I found this semester is you always have to plan a back up lecture. You always have to prepare two lectures because I cannot rely on the technology. I want to talk about the phenomenon of stereotypes today and how they fit into the processes of racialization and the realities of race that you have already begun to analyze. I would like you to sign in with your name and SID so I can enter in a bonus point for you guys. We all know stereotypes. We all know that they are probably wrong but are linked to some grain of truth that might be a tiny bit real except the understanding about what that truth is and where it comes from is usually missing. Even though stereotypes are inaccurate, hurtful and so forth, stereotypes are very influential because they define in a kind of often unexamined way how we perceive other people, whether we want to own it or not. Even if you or I will not subscribe to a stereotype, there is enough out there that do. It is not out of bigotry, but they think it is what they see
