When Ian was five, his mother died of cancer. Ian’s father gave his sister custody of Ian because he
“couldn’t handle him.” Shortly after, his sister, her husband, and their toddler daughter moved into the
family home. The sister’s husband sexually abused his toddler daughter and accused Ian of the abuse.
Even though Ian did not sexually abuse the toddler, Ian confessed to a police investigator that he did it.
Despite Ian’s confession, the husband was convicted of the sexual abuse and is currently serving a 25-
year sentence. The sister, whom Ian loved, moved out of his home, and Ian was forced into foster care.
While in foster care, Ian was repeatedly sexually and physically abused by his foster parents.
