Sheet Forming A bracket made of leaded brass (E brass =105 × 10 3 MPa) is manufactured by fine blanking, piercing, and bending operations (see Fig. 1) a. Make a sketch of the blanking process (identifying die elements) that assures perpendicular cut surfaces with smooth finish. Explain why the process will result in the required quality. b. Calculate the force required for punching the holes use C 1 = 0.70. c. Calculate the minimum bending radius allowable to avoid necking and the amount of springback in a normal bending operation. Sketch the process. d. Suggest a bending technique that will eliminate any spring back (do not consider over-bending solution). Sketch the process and explain why the process will result in the required quality. Figure 1
