Literature Review: Using primary and secondary sources, analyze how the problem is beingaddressed in other communities. How prevalent is it? Through a review of the literature, evaluate the social, political, and historical milestones and trends relative to the identifiedproblem. You should also review interventions that have been attempted in othercommunities and their success, or lack thereof. In conducting this review of literature multiple texts were read connected to fatherhood andthe services provided to fathers across moments from prenatal to childhood. Included were alsotexts that made reference maultiple socio-cultural factors such as economics, education, mentalhealth, ethnicity and race. It is important to use the socio-cultural lens in this review as therehas been an increase in the need for working with this clientel particularly in the state of NewHapmshire. Much of the literature refers to how in the past most frequently attention has beengiven to the maternal parent in terms of extended care and support, but with more mothersreturning to the work force, the role of fathers and their skills/mental health has becomeincreasingly researched. The response at the federal level has been to generate grants andpolicy to support programs that address fathers specifically. While the possible scope of thisreview and research could be very wide, I am going to focus on the role and support of fathersfrom prenatal tofill in age here or just say through childhood.Cultural considerations will alsobe included in this work, it will be from the broad view of culture and not limited to one specificcultural group. We know that, “Children do best when they have parents who are physically and mentallyhealthy. Gender patterns on physical and mental health for non-elderly adults consistently findmen disadvantaged relative to women. Poor and near poor individuals fare worse than the notpoor. And unmarried men experience worse health outcomes than those who are married.Taken together, low-income, non-resident fathers may be presumed to have particularlydeleterious physical and mental health characteristics.”Pearson, J., & Wildfeuer, R. (2022). Policies andPrograms Affecting Fathers: A State-by-State Report. Center for Policy Research and Fatherhood Research &Practice Network. However, for this to be most effective, the cultural aspects of the individual mustbe considered by the service provider.“Fatherhood and other family strengthening programs should be to design and deliver servicesin a culturally competent manner. Cultural competence refers to a set of knowledge, skills, andattitudes that can be developed to work with those who appear and may be different from us.
