According to Jason DeMers in his 2014 article for Forbes Magazine, “measurement is what makes marketing a science, rather than a superstition.” Having a definitive set of metrics can help a business to identify a successful marketing strategy rather than wasting time and money on something that doesn’t boast any actual returns (DeMers, 2014). The tricky part about web analytics, however, is understanding why they behave the way they do, and which ones are truly affecting your goals as a business. It is easy to get caught up in metrics that don’t really matter, and miss the ones that do. For instance, it is easy to get wrapped up in the idea of pageviews , but according to web expert Jennifer Kyrnin, they’re the easiest to conceptualize, but they don’t actually increase your bottom line.
