Michael Curran Psychology 113 – Diversity Paper Draft “Our mission is to respect cultural, individual and role differences” is perhaps the biggest I find myself as a psychology major at the University of Rhode Island. It is a mission statement that encourages unity through understanding and knowledge, and promises to translate this unity into a promotion for conflict resolution and all in all, a better society to live in. On Tuesday February 19 th in an attempt to become more aligned with the manta of the psychology departed I attended the “International Carnival” at Rhode Island College. As somebody growing up in a more diverse and cultural America, it wasn’t the first time I’d found myself at a multicultural event though this was perhaps the first time I’d gone out of my way to actively seek out the heritage of what makes up almost fifty percent of our state. The premise of the International Carnival, promoted by R.I.C.’s Unity Center and the organization “Women of Color”, was to present global foods, music
