Philosophy of Nursing Wilson Kathy Wilson Foundations of Nursing Philosophy Paper John Paschal April 18, 2008 Nursing—a Way of Life I believe that nursing encompasses every aspect of life. I believe that your philosophy of life is an integral part of your philosophy of nursing. I believe that the ethics that guide your life will also guide your nursing. I believe that the character you have forged within will be the foundation of your nursing practice. I believe that nursing is a unique genre, requiring knowledge of the medical arts as well as psychosocial sciences, skill in performing nursing duties, a willingness to serve, and an attitude of personal responsibility. Nursing encompasses the physical, emotional, and psychosocial care of clients. The nurse collaborates with other care givers to meet all these needs. I am Jewish. In Judaism, life—your own life or the life of another—is to be preserved at almost any cost. Even the commandments concerning the holiest of holy days can be broken if it is to save a life.
