Chris Howe Notes: Thursday, 2/12/2009 Debates on Diffusion of High Speed Internet: -Stimulus Bill includes $7 Billion for Broadband. (Effort to increase Broadband access spurs debate, Obama sound clip on NPR). -Increasing broadband can help businesses, the economy (especially in smaller, rural towns), and can lead to people buying computers, webcams, etc. -On the other hand, there is no actual map to research how broadband affects different areas. The Adoption Cycle: Some people adopt innovations earlier than others.

Innovators – 2.5% - Seen as small part of population. First to try, “risktakers”. They usually have more of a budget or access, as well as active social mobility. Often a part of the younger generation. Early Adopters – 13.5% - Base their decision more on information from innovators. Opinion leaders. Connectors of the few and larger population. Technologies can stop here, so they are a medium between innovators and majority. Early Majority + Late Majority –
