Stevenson1 Keisha’e Stevenson Prof. Huck HISTO143 October 19 ,2016 Benedict Arnold: The Traitor We often hear of people being called Benedict Arnolds, well not really, there is a faint memory in the back of my head of this form of name calling. The faded memory I do have of teachers using this vocabulary often associate this with being called a traitor. No one ever tells us why Benedict was a traitor. Outside of the fact that he committed and act of being a traitor and joined the British forces we know nothing else. Why did Benedict Arnold defect to the British? Benedict Arnold was an early American hero of the Revolutionary War who later became one of the most infamous traitors in U.S. history after he switched sides and fought for the British. At the outbreak of the war, Arnold participated in the capture of the British military base of Fort Ticonderoga in 1775. In 1776, he hindered a British invasion of New York at the Battle of Lake Champlain. The following year, he played a crucial role in bringing about the surrender of
