Willie Cramer November 27, 2007 GenEd 110 Bond Crusades: A Trail of Blood Shed The Crusades were quite possibly one of the most violent of all religious “Holy Wars”. Jerusalem is a place of much controversy and blood shed. With many different religions calling it the Holy Land it is bound to attract attention both negative and positive. In regards to the Crusades, it is very negative. Pope Urban declares “ Not I, but the Lord- exhort you, heralds of Christ…. to help expel that wicked race from our Christian lands before it is too late.” (Pg. 344 Reilly) This decree sets up an event of mass murdering and destruction. The Muslim’s describe brutal slayings while the Christians thought of it as taking back what was theirs. In the end, I feel that we will never know the true devastation due to the fact there is going to extreme bias from any source that you read.
