Alex J Garcia Professor Ramirez Political Science _ State Government Thursday, January 2016 Ever since I was a young boy I always correlated politics with corruption. I remember being around 10 years old living in Puerto Rico and hearing my family saying that the government is robbing the people of Puerto Rico, which is a very true statement regarding Puerto Rico. Since I was younger it was always a fight against the rich and the poor on the island. The rich being the ones who had a say in what happened in the government and the poor having little to no say. Growing up in that type of environment made moving to the United States a no brainer. Now that I am older and have a better understanding of what politics is I know now that the correlation was completely accurate and there is a lot of corruption however, I do believe in the few political influences that want so badly to make a change in their community and in our nation as a whole… Now that I have attended MIG I have such a huge more profound understanding of what state government is I now know how important it is to me. After moving to Illinois from Puerto Rico it was a big change not in everything since I had lived in Illinois before living on the island. However I saw that in the United States, a person can get more bang for their buck. Once I was living with my parents, who I hadn’t lived with in Puerto Rico, I realized my Dad was a huge conservative republican. He is a man who will argue politics till he is blue in the face.
