Lab 5 Objective : We are trying to determine the Ka value using the pH titration curve that we derive from our experiment. Procedure: 1) The people in the lab split up into groups, such as some groups obtained NaOH and other groups obtained phosphoric acid. 2) We put in 10ml at 0.02M citric acid in a small beaker and read the pH 3) A buret was then filled up with either NaOH or phosphoric acid. 4) We then added NaOH. Slowly, recording the volume of NaOH required to affect a pH change of 0.2 until it reach approximately 12. Data: ~0.02M NaOH Initial buret reading = 3ml Initial pH of the citric acid = 2.5 pH NaOH(volume added) pH NaOH(volume add) 2.5 0 7.5 25.1 2.7 2 7.7 25.2 2.9 2.8 7.9 - 3.1 3.7 8.1 - 3.3 5.3 8.3 25.4 3.5 6.4 8.5 - 3.7 7.5 8.7 - 3.9 8.5 8.85 25.45 4.1 9.7 9.1 25.5 4.3 10.8 9.26 25.55 4.5 12.2 9.5 25.65 4.7 13.4 9.7 25.8 4.9 14.6 9.9 26.0 5.1 15.7 10.1 26.2 5.3 16.9 10.3 26.6 5.5 18.0 10.5 27.15 5.7 19.1 10.7 28.00 5.9 20.3 10.9 30.2 6.1 21.5 11.1 32.95 6.3 22.6 11.3 38.9 6.5 23.3 6.7 24.0 6.9 24.5 7.1 - 7.3 25.0
