Evolution A theme that unites all of biology Life originated and changed over time = evolved Genetics      is the basis for evolution Organisms have become increasingly complex Led to presence of millions of species on earth today 2. Characteristics of living things What distinguishes something that is living? Certain characteristics define life Non-living have one or several, but not all Living organisms possess all  of these characteristics 1. Cellular organization 2. Emergent properties 3. Reproduction
