Non-core vaccines ** all cats should be tested for FeLV + FIV FELINE IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS Transmitted through bites Acute = sick, develop fever Chronic = AIDS-like syndrome, immunosuppressed, bad gum disease,  gastrointestinal problems BORRELIOSIS   (Lyme Disease) Borrelia Burgdorferi  – spread by deer ticks - bacteria Disease of dogs (don’t see in cats) o Multi-system disease o Fever – polyarthritis Huge amount of dogs contract the disease   never show clinical signs Easy to treat with antibiotics, annual vaccine LEPTOSPIROSIS Multiple serotypes Dogs can get it – vaccines are specific Zoonotic virus Transmission = shed in the urine o Contact with skin or mucus membranes Symptoms: fever – kidney + liver disease – jaundice – hemorrhaging If caught early   can be turned around
