Unformatted text preview: Joshua Farrell Intl Mgmt MWF 1:00-1:50 German vs. United Sates Human Resources Advantages and Disadvantages Germany and the United States are worlds apart in culture and distance. Germans spend about 30 hours a week working while their American counterparts work roughly 38 hours a week (Benjamin and Herwitz, 1994). Germans also are legally allowed more paid time off than Americans. An advantage of German workers is a happier worker. Most workers react negatively under stress. An advantage of the German culture is more vacation time. The worker can spend more time with their family and side projects that they are passionate about. The job becomes much easier to handle and thinking critically is more abundant. This time off also allows coworkers to spend more time around each other, strengthening teamwork and trustworthiness throughout the company. While this camaraderie may strengthen German work relationships, Americans relay productivity with profits and individual achievements. In the United States, workers equate long hours to success. Whether they are passionate or not about their job, the more hours they work the better they feel about their achievements in the workplace. In Trompenaars cultural the better they feel about their achievements in the workplace....
