Should developing countries be held to the same environmental standards as developed countries? Economic Dev Taking care of basic needs (hunger, disease, poverty) is more urgent The North is trying to hold back potential competitors The North is intervening in sovereign nations’ affairs Env rules are not in many nations’ interests Loss of jobs will occur Political instability might result Alternative energies The North is hypocritical GMOs can provide better and more food for all Environment We must preserve the Earth for future generations Poverty and env damage are closely linked SD is needed Northern companies suffer due to lack of env and social rules in the South Unchecked population growth is bad for everyone Uncontrolled growth makes no economic sense Alt energies are not always save and easily available Protecting our living space is everyone’s concern Biodiversity of the South is being threatened Sustainable development
