Statuses and roles o Positions in society Status Race Gender Position in job Brother/sister o Roles The expectations that come along with the statuses Social control o The process in which people/groups are brought into conformity Over conformity o People try so hard to meet expectations that they do so through deviant means Deviant: differing from a norm or from the accepted standards of a society o Examples Tanning beds Steroids Working out too much
