Fences: Denzel Washington as Troy Maxon Denzel Washington would be a good pick for Troy Maxon because first and foremost, he actually played him in a live performance of the play. In the play he expresses his character really well. If I were a director, I would cast him based on his performance in that play. That performance aside, he was the first person to come to mind because he is on the older side, similar to Troy. Troy is 53 years old and Denzel Washington is currently 60 years old. Furthermore, a big factor that went into choosing him was his acting performance in other movies that I’ve watched, namely Book of Eliand Flight. Robert Ri’chard as Cory Maxon Robert Ri’chard is a perfect choice for Cory Maxon because in the movie Coach Carter, the son of the coach is played by Ri’chard. The character in that movie is also a good basketball player, which is why I associated Ri’chard with being Cory Maxon who plays football.
