Critical Reflection Page #2 One interesting quote I read was that Mani, a Babylonian prophet “had followed the Gnostics in speaking of two Gods- a good one who had created the spiritual realm and an evil one who ruled over matter.” (N100) I do not agree with this statement. As Jesus said, “You shall have no other Gods before me.” 1 (ESV, Exodus 20:3) I don’t believe that there would be an evil God; I have always believed that God is all powerful and all loving. It is hard to believe that there would be another God that is evil. One part of the reading that I found the most surprising was that “the most sacred time of the year was the fifty-day period between Easter and Pentecost.” (N106) I had always believed that the most sacred time was Lent which precedes Easter. I think this is because in my life there has always been an emphasis on lent and never the period after Easter. I have learned to give up something valuable and to fast from meat on Fridays during lent. Another relevant sentence to me about the holy calendar was how Jesus’ birthday was chosen. I always
