03/03/2008 04:01:00 Exploring L.A. Today Race: The power of an Illusion (film we watched on Tuesday) Major argument is that Race is not biologically real, rather it is an IDEA that  we attach to biology We tend to think that a difference in skin color reflects or is due to a different  biological or genetic make-up Even though it is an illusion, this does not mean that race has no meaning or  doesn’t matter What’s most interesting or troubling about race is that everyone around has  attached importance to this concept of race Areas where Race has mattered:     RACE AND THE LAW: one major area where race matters Up until the 1950s in America, it was illegal in most states for whites to marry  blacks because of the belief that intermarriage between whites and blacks  would dilute the purity of the white race More likely for each group to reproduce with each other  Even the reproduction of so called races has always depended on social  codes and on the law Needed laws to keep those populations white and to keep those populations  black RACE AND COUNTING THE POPULATION (CENSUS) Government conducts a census every 10 years to know it’s population and its  demographics

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
