MEMO TO: Don Gaetz, Senate Education chairman FROM: (Your Name), Stetson University Student DATE: February 2, 2008 SUBJECT: Florida Resident Access Grant (FRAG) Stetson University students and their parents are profoundly concerned about the future of private higher education in view of Governor Charlie Crist’s dire threat to the Florida Resident Access Grant. I am writing to you, as one of Florida’s dedicated legislators, to ask you to block the Governor’s budget proposal, which would deny the $3,000 FRAG to new students and cut funding nearly in half. Please do not allow the Governor to drive thousands of additional students to the state university system because they cannot afford a $3,000 tuition increase at the private institutions of their choice. Taxpayers will bear the increased cost of educating them. His shocking move against the FRAG makes no budgetary sense. The Governor estimates that his proposal will cut approximately 15,000 students out of the program, costing ICUF students about $47 million in lost tuition.
