Chinese 155 April 11, 2008 “Real” Euhmerization Wu Zixu and Qu Yuan - Wu Zixu o Born during the time of King Ping (528-516) of the Warring Sates kingdom of Chu o Wu Zixu’s father and elder brother were executed during political infighting o Wu Zixu fled, after a series of adventures to the state of Wu o Eventually he became a high minister of the state of Wu and an important general o He helped Wu conquer the states of Chu and Yue o When eh conquered Chu, he dug up the corpse of King Ping- who had executed his father and brother- and whipped the corpse in revenge o Later, a reinvigorated Yue was plotting to invade Wu o Wu Zixu denounced their bribes and was slandered by jealous officials o King Fuchai ordered him to commit suicide o He did commit suicide, with a sword given to him by the king o This happened about 484 BC o Later, in 482 BC, Yue invaded and conquered Wu and King Fuchai committed suicide o After his suicide, the body of Wu Zixu was thrown into the Qiantang River o It is said that his anger at this and his country’s fate caused the tidal bore
