Nick Wyatt MUH 218 Jazz Review #1 The jazz performance that I witnessed by the band Paradigm was amazing. The show that I attended by Paradigm took place on September 7 at the Hideaway Saloon, which is located on Bardstown Road. Paradigm consists of Brian Healey, Jon Epley, Myron Koch, Will Roberts, and Evan Pouchak, who in their own unique way add a style to music that I haven’t really heard before. Brian Healey plays the keyboards, Jon Epley is the guitarist, Myron Koch plays the saxophone, Will Roberts is the bassist, and Evan Pouchak is the drummer. Together, these five members make up Paradigm, and together they are a truly amazing modern jazz band. I refer to Paradigm as a “modern jazz band.” By this, I mean that their sounds seem to transcend the classic styles of jazz. When I think of “classic jazz,” I think of the typical swing styles which involve such instruments as the piano, drums, trumpet, and saxophone. While Paradigm includes many of the same instruments and styles as “classic jazz,” they seem to accompany this with a much more “funky” sound. Many of the selections played made me want to get out of my seat and dance. This blend of swing and funk seem to make up the overall
