Meta Platforms owns Facebook, a social media and social networking service founded in
2004 in the United States. Facebook was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, Andrew
McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, and Chris Hughes. The name "Facebook"
comes from the Facebook directories widely distributed among American college students. Since
2006, students from other North American universities and anyone over the age of thirteen have
been able to join, whereas previously, it was only open to Harvard students. Facebook will be the
fourth most popular website in 2020, with 2.8 billion monthly active users; it was leading in
2010. At the time, it was the most popular mobile app.
