Mac Bowman Firda English 12 H 25 August 2016 Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Log: First Quarter: What has been interesting to you so far? The way the author intertwines history with this vampire story has intrigued me because much of what is lost in history turns out to be the work of vampires. It makes me laugh how most of what troubled Abraham was somehow related to vampires, it keeps the story alive. Is there anything you understand better now than you did earlier in the book? I learned a lot about Abraham Lincoln’s early days, most of what Grahame-Smith uses is history so Lincoln’s family deaths and travels are mostly true, though their motives are altered. One part tells of when Lincoln and a buddy were floating down a river and their raft was almost overtaken by runaway slaves, but Lincoln fought them off; this is completely factual. Have you gotten stuck at all? What have you don’t to get unstuck? Yes, I have gotten stuck, and it is usually because I zone out. I have to regain focus and then re- read the passages that I zoned out on. It is not a huge issue, but it happens from time to time, I believe this will stop once the book gets more intense and I don’t want to put it down. Second Quarter: What are you noticing about the plot, characters, style, plot/conflict or theme? What are you wondering? The plot persists throughout the novel with small “side plots” running through it. Lincoln is constantly finding and fighting vampires, but the novel also shows his candidacy, his businesses (mostly failed), and his love interests. I am thinking that at some point all of these will come together and all of
