Chapter 3 What is language? Language is a code comprised of symbols, letters or words with arbitrary meanings. This ‘code’ is arranged according to rules of syntax. Language can be verbal, nonverbal and written. Principles of Verbal Communication Language has rules. Language shapes how we see the world. Language is arbitrary and symbolic.
