Reading Time Signature Time signature: is a symbol at the beginning of the staff that tells you how many beats are in a measure and what note gets one beat. This is what a time signatures looks like: 3 4 - 4 4 - 2 2 - 6 8 - 2 4 As you can see there are 2 numbers in time signature Each numbers tells you different things 1. The top number of the time signature tells you how many beats are in a measure. Example: 3 4 There are three beats in each measure.
