Mrigender Virk 12 December 2004 Professor Shaffer English Comp 2 Writer’s Memo One of the best ways to build content and a thesis for an essay is the prewriting exercises. I found there to many ways I could build an essay without writing it down in a structured form. The first stage of my writing usually included a free-write and an application grid. These two exercises got out the main idea I wanted to state and also helped me to create evidence and support for that idea. Using these preliminary steps I would start to write my paper in a flow of consciousness style. I would always write a very rough introduction paragraph before I started the body. Even though the intro was not permanent it included the thesis and gave me something to work after. After the intro I build the body paragraphs. What I found most effective in the rough draft was to write them almost simultaneously. It was much easier to just let all my ideas out on paper rather than hold them in my head until a later paragraph where I thought I could use them. After writing
