Linguistics Lec 1 04-12-05 HW Set 1 P. 30 #2 a. * should include ‘to before ‘go.’ f. * sentence structure is incorrect. ‘By’ should follow ‘came.’ g. * subject and verb should come right after ‘Did.’ h. * subject should come first and verb should be ‘resembles.’ l. * reader can’t tell which part is the subject. n. * should be ‘…put the baby to sleep yet.’ o. * change ‘for you to’ to ‘that you would.’ p. * ‘who’ is not concrete so ‘and’ can’t be used. q. * subject is stated in form of an indirect or direct object. s. * should use ‘with’ instead of ‘and’ or remove ‘what’ and add ‘something else.’ P. 31 # 5 Although there are thousands of words there is still a limit to their value and how many a person can learn. Sentences are limitless so, hypothetically, you could create a new sentence every time you speak. It seems like there is a better chance of creating a new sentence but a word would be more memorable and easier to learn. P. 32 #9
