How to Read Citations 1. State Courts 235 Tex. 315, 454 S.W. 2d 698 (1990) S.W . is the abbreviation for West’s publication of State court decisions rendered in the southwestern region of the National Reporter System. 2d indicates that this case was included n the second series of those reports. The number 454 refers to the volume number of the reporter; the number 698 refers to the first page in what volume on which this case can be found.
