Camille johnson Study Questions on Early Feminism and the Suffrage Movement Who was the first feminist? How far back does feminism go? (Lillith) Lillith was the first feminist. Feminism goes as far back as creation of the first humans. Lillith is said to be the first woman in Jewish tradition. Lillith was independent and her ways here seen as demon like. She is seen as taking revenge on her human race. What are the earliest complaints and calls for reform from the first feminists? What do they ask for first? (Before First Fems; Seneca Falls) That all women and men are created equal. Women ask for education first but other complaints are for single/married/divorced law equality, more rights, property rights, and employee rights. The first feminists attacked male supremacy, and how marriage is a means of financial and emotional control of women. Women are treated so they become inherently weak, passive, and ill. They wanted property and family rights. Make a list of the accusations made against suffragists by the anti-suffragists. (I count almost 20) How many of these same claims and prophecies are made against feminists now? Women wanted to vote and fill seats on congress. They believed they could do any job a man could do.
