EE 302 Project Instructions EE 302 Project Fall 2007 Page 1 of 1 The EE 302 Project is designed for you to explore UT-Austin and learn more about the engineering profession. The project will consist of a series of assignments broken up into eight units. Note that some units will require more work than others. It is important that you take this into account when meeting the schedule below (see Grading below) . For each unit, there is an estimated page length for your write-up. We do not count pages per se; this is an estimate of how many pages the EE 302 instructors feel it will take to cover the subject adequately. The goal is for you to do a good job exploring these topics. If you can do it with less pages, that is fine. If you feel that it is going to take you A LOT more pages than the estimate, then you are probably making the assignment too complex. In that case, we recommend that you come in and talk to your EE 302 instructor about your plans and approach. Unit A: One Page Resume It is important that all engineering students have a resume for summer internships, co-op opportunities, scholarships, etc. Please create a one page resume for this purpose. If you have one from High School, make sure that you updated it. If you need help creating a resume, we strongly suggest that you register with the Engineering Career Assistance Center: http://ecac.engr.utexas.edu/ . Their services are free to all engineering students. Unit B: Engineering in the Popular Press (Estimated Pages: 1-2) Consider one of the following articles: Smaller (The disposable diaper and the meaning of progress) The Bakeoff (Competing to create the ultimate cookie) The Bionic Eye (Can scientists use electronic implants to help the blind see?) How Do I Love Thee? (Internet Dating and the Science of Attraction) Out in the Sort (Lobsters, bats, and Bentleys in the UPS hub) In writing this section of the project, you need to include the following: A summary of the article . This should be written so that someone who is not familiar with the article will understand its content and main points. What does the article teach you about engineering? Provide evidence from the article to make your case. Unit C: Ethics & Professional Responsibility (Estimated Pages: 3-5) In this section, you will explore ethics and responsibility by reading the Introduction to Professional Ethics scenario. It can be found on the College of Engineering WWW site @ www.engr.utexas.edu/ethics/profresp/lesson1/index.cfm . When writing this section of the project, make sure to include the following: A summary of the events involving Buffalo Creek . This should be written so that someone who is not familiar with this event will understand the major issues involved. A critique of the actions of the major players in the scenario . In your critique, provide evidence of their ethical or unethical behavior.
